Insufficient protection against noise at the work place is still a central cause for the loss of hearing and, finally, occupational disability. The EU has, for this reason, considerably reduced the noise limit values at the work place in its Noise Protection Ordinance. The number of employees who will be obliged to wear ear protection devices will, according to the estimates of the experts, be increased by 40 percent.
